Social Media & Community Management Intern for Urban Forestry in California

The California Urban Forests Council (CAUFC) is a nonprofit organization that envisions thriving and prosperous California communities transformed by healthy trees and green spaces. We advance smart investment in green infrastructure through education and outreach, community-based activities, and collaborative action.

California Urban Forests Council, based in San Rafael, California is seeking a Marketing & Communications intern to devise and support campaigns and day-to-day storytelling tasks to help inspire Californians and policymakers to grow great communities.

As a Californian based organization working with communities within the state, our internship is available to residents of California. Work can be undertaken remotely.

Responsibilities

Assist with campaigns including but not limited to:

  • Utilizing social media to engage with a community of fans/followers online
  • Creating and curating relevant social media content
  • Coordinating online marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Drafting social media, email and website content on an ad hoc basis
  • Creating education and outreach materials
  • Writing blog posts
  • Preparing e-newsletters and email communications pieces
  • Maintaining a content calendar
  • Tracking social media and web analytics
  • Collaborates on projects and assignments
  • Creating communication pieces for members
  • Creating online communications around conferences and events

Assist CAUFC in its Publicity, Fundraising and Membership efforts including:

  • Developing a content calendar
  • Identifying target audiences and media outlets
  • Building media lists and updating contacts in database
  • Building a list of contacts for developing co-branded resources
  • Calendar listings
  • Maintain and grow email contact list
Requirements
  • Provide links to 1-3 social networking profiles to demonstrate interest and knowledge
  • Possesses skills in writing, presentation, interpersonal relations, and member management
  • Performs well in environment that values creativity, flexibility, and variety
  • Exhibits personal qualities, such as open-mindedness, enthusiasm, and adaptability
  • Prefers challenges, fast pace, new ideas, future focus, and unstructured environment
Skills
  • Proficient with Google Docs/Microsoft Suite.
  • Familiar with using WordPress for website content.
  • Familiar with Hootsuite and social media scheduling apps.
  • Proficient at writing and communicating clearly.
  • Able to take direction and work independently.
  • Proficiency with all major Social Media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.)
  • Dependability and ability to adhere to deadlines.

Graphic Arts Internship for Urban Forestry in California

  • Creating social media, email and website content on an ad hoc basis
  • Creating education and outreach materials, including infographics, flyers, and brochures
  • Sourcing and developing imagery for blog posts
  • Creating content e-newsletters and email communications pieces

Assist CAUFC in its Publicity, Fundraising and Membership efforts including:

  • Making website updates and posts
  • Posting to social media
  • Developing ideas for future education and outreach materials
  • Putting together membership packs
  • Developing membership and fundraising campaign artwork
Requirements
  • Working towards a BA or certificate from a Fine Arts program/Graphic Design school
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Docs programs
  • Knowledge of WordPress and some basic HTML/CSS
  • Must be a team player and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Open to constructive criticism and team feedback
Skills
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite/Wordpress.

  • Skilled in Graphic Art and Design, including layout, typography, etc.
