We are seeking a passionate and creative social media intern to join our team. The intern will help develop and implement our social media strategy; to increase our online presence, leverage our campaigns, and further our goals of promoting thriving and prosperous California communities transformed by healthy trees and green spaces.

Introduction

You will help build and execute an exciting, strategic social media campaign focused on educating the community on how trees are essential to our overall wellbeing by looking at the many and varied benefits provided by the urban forest.

Additionally, you will be responsible for driving traffic to our main website, our program websites, and for expanding our social media presence generally. You will also help us to grow our email list, and to increase participation in events while promoting core programs including Invest from the Ground Up.

We are a small but dynamic and effective nonprofit – allowing you to have a significant, direct impact on the growth of the organization and our campaigns to promote an appreciation of the importance of a healthy urban forest.

Essential Duties

We are a California based organization, working on projects and programs within the state. Our social media intern will either be residing in California or a Californian studying out of state. 

Help to develop, implement, and manage CaUFC’s social media strategy for all core campaigns.

Helps create and execute a comprehensive social media content that drives viewers to our websites:

Manages our social media presence to raise online awareness of CaUFC, our programs, and events, attract new audiences, and drive audiences to our website.

Generates compelling content that works across social media platforms to promote film and video projects and our work.

Grows followers and engagement on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and other social media platforms with content relevant to our different audiences and groups of supporters.

Identifies influencers in the community, and builds and leverages the relationships.

Monitors and proactively responds to breaking developments and new opportunities.

Creates an editorial calendar to plan out communication in advance.

Integrates our social media platforms to ensure greater consistency.

Tracks and evaluates social media effectiveness for the campaign.

Works with staff and high-level volunteers to develop and execute strategy, content, timing, and outreach to promote.

Performs other related duties as appropriate.

Core Competencies

Fluency in all major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Twitter, with an understanding of trends, best practices, and metrics in social media outlets.

Experience in growing and leveraging communities on social networks.

Studying, planning to undertake studies, or working within an environmental science program would be beneficial.

You may also be undertaking studies in marketing, digital media/communications, journalism, or related fields and have an interest in environmental science, particularly in urban forestry.

Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and an eye for design.

Knowledge of apps or platforms used to create basic graphic content preferred (you will have access to Canva for creating content) and will work with our Communications Director to develop content.

Resourceful in utilizing our strong partnerships to access perks that can help build our online community, leverage resources, and build those relationships internally.

Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Proactive and self-driven.

A proven team player.

Comfortable working remotely.

Demonstrated creativity, innovation, and good judgment.

Must have your own computer with internet access.

Position Details

Internship Dates: November 2020 through May 2021 with the opportunity to extend.

Hours: 5 to 10 hours per week

Location: Marin County, CA, or remote

Reports to Executive Director & Communications Director
