Invasive Plant Best Management Practices Webinar

The webinar is on March 24, 2015 at 1PM EST. Learn how to create Best Management Practices (BMPs) that help identify and minimize the spread of invasive species. Bernie Williams (Wisconsin DNR) will share her experience of developing and implementing state invasive plant BMPs. Brad Herrick and Judy Kingsbury (University of Wisconsin Arboretum) will discuss the Arboretum’s BMPs and working with volunteers to implement the practices. The webinar is free and pre-registration is not required. Participants are encouraged to download Blackboard Collaborate at least one hour prior to the webinar. The webinar is hosted by the Sustainable Forests Roundtable, US Forest Service and Southern Regional Extension Forestry Webinar Portal. To join the webinar click here.

A new report from the UCB School of Law – Center for Law, Energy & the Environment identifies actions water quality authorities can take to drive data collection and information sharing. Accelerating Cost-Effective Green Stormwater Infrastructure: Learning from Local Implementation recommends enhancing learning from local implementation efforts to address knowledge gaps and speed cost-effective deployment. Register for STS March Meeting

STS has Jorge Orozco as a guest speaker for their meeting on Thursday, March 26th from 10:30am – 1pm. The discussion will be on street trees south of the border and compare the health and hardiness of trees in Tijuana versus trees in Southern California. It will be at the LA Arboretum (Address: 301 N. Baldwin Ave Arcadia, CA). Pre-Registration is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Click here to register!!


Wood Decay Diagnostic Research Project

The Wood Decay Diagnostic System is a state of the art, DNA-based, multiplex PCR method that can detect and identify many important wood rot fungi. This assay can identify decay agents in both standing trees and downed trees. It can detect multiple decay fungi in individual trees. Click here for more information about this exciting project!!
