USDA Observes Kick Off of the International Year of Soils

Jan. 6, 2015 the USDA began its celebration of International Year of Soils to highlight the importance of healthy soils for food security, ecosystem functions and resilient farms and ranches. This year of awareness was spearheaded by FAO, working within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership. Each month focuses on a different aspect of soil. Click here for more information regarding the International Year of Soils.


Speak at the EPA Hearings

Make your voice heard about national clean air standards by speaking at the EPA Hearings. The EPA will hold 3 public hearings on the proposed updates to the national air quality standards for ground-level ozone, also known as smog. The hearing is in Byron Sher  Auditorium in Sacramento, California held by the California Air Resources Board will take place on Feb. 2, 2015 from 9am – 7:30pm. IRS raised its business mileage rates this year by 1.5 cents. However, there has been no change for volunteers. CalNonprofits is raising awareness about this issue.

US Forest Service Reminds Recreationists of First Fee-Free Day for 2015, which was held on MLK Day. There are 4 more scheduled throughout the year. The purpose of this is so visitors can spend more time enjoying their national parks and grasslands. For more information click here.
