Don’t miss this important opportunity! Weigh-in on grant guidelines and project funding.
The California Natural Resources Agency has been allocated $80 million from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund for its new Urban Greening Program. Draft guidelines for the program have recently been released for public comment.
The Urban Greening Program represents an excellent funding opportunity for urban forestry projects with the methodology used to measure GHG emission reductions favoring tree planting and urban forestry.
The draft guidelines describe projects eligible for funding as transforming the built environment; • into places that are more sustainable and enjoyable, • to be effective in creating healthy and vibrant communities, • by establishing and enhancing parks and open space, • using natural solutions to improving air and water quality, • by reducing energy consumption, and • creating more walkable and bike-able trails.
The proposed grant guidelines will also only cover project-related costs. For many community based organizations and nonprofits who are often under-resourced and under-funded coverage of indirect costs as eligible expenses are critical to the success of both the project and the organization.
You can help California grow great neighborhoods by reviewing the draft guidelines here, attending a public meeting or submitting written comments. The deadline is Monday, December 5, 2016.
