WUCOLS IV Website: Water Needs for Common Plants
Visit WUCOLS IV website! Click on “Plant Search Database” you will have access to water needs evaluations on all species (~3,500) in the nursery trade in California. You can create your own list using the “My List” feature and then down it to an excel spreadsheet. Checking out this website is a definite must for these hot summer months! 
 

OSU Offers Online Graduate Certificate in Urban Forestry
 

Oregon State University is giving natural resource professionals an innovative and flexible way to advance their careers by offering the nation’s first online graduate certification in urban forestry. The certificate combines OSU’s expertise in forestry with its reputation as a national leader in online education to provide students with an interactive learning environment that better equips them to manage trees in and around urban areas. 

Cuyamaca College: Two New Arboriculture Classes this Fall

Cuyamaca College has two new Arboriculture classes starting this fall in the Ornamental Horticulture Dept. The two new classes are Safe Work Practices in Tree Climbing and Science in Practice for Arboriculture. They are 1 unit courses offered in short format- 5 to 10 weeks. Click here to see the class schedule.

Paper on Landscaping and Urban Planting

Urban forests can provide ecosystem services that motivate tree planting campaigns, and tree survival is a key element of program success and projected benefits. We studied survival in a shade tree give-away program in Sacramento, CA. Our results illustrate the critical role of tree care and consistent homeownership to young tree mortality on residential properties, and suggest that survival assumptions in urban forest ecosystem services models may be overly optimistic.
