Magen Matison Shaw – Representing the San Diego Region. Magen has been a certified arborist since 2015 and obtained the TRAQ certification in 2017. Magen is the current Horticulturist and Arborist for Balboa Park, employed by the City of San Diego. Magen’s educational background is in ecology, with a strong emphasis on natural resource management and environmental restoration. In recent years, she has helped shape San Diego urban forests through various means, including involvement with the San Diego Regional Urban Forests Council, the City of San Diego’s Forestry Advisory Board, and the Tree Care for Birds and Wildlife Program, the planting of over 700 trees throughout Balboa Park, the creation of a Tree Steward and Trees to Treasures Programs in partnership with local non-profits, the planning of City Arbor Day events and the creation of training programs that focus on tree care and management for City employees.
