Support Urban Forestry Funding & Policy for 2017

  • $22M for Urban Forests - GHG Reduction Fund

  • Assembly Bill 1530 - Enhance Urban Forestry Act

2017 could be a banner year for urban forestry in California if we act together today to move public policy and budget proposals that strongly support CAL FIRE’s Urban and Community Forestry Program.

Governor Brown has proposed a 2017-18 State Budget that includes an unspecified sum for urban forestry from the larger Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund expenditure plan.  We believe $22 million of these funds should be committed to CAL FIRE’s Urban Forestry program.  We need your support on this letter to demonstrate the broad commitment from community benefit organizations and their partners for this request.

And we are thrilled to announce that Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego) has introduced Assembly Bill 1530, which provides important augmentations and enhancements to the Urban Forestry Act of 1978, including language to better support maintenance of our existing trees as well as more focus on stormwater management, workforce development, and social equity.

We need to show our community’s overwhelming support for Assembly Member Gonzalez Fletcher's bill by sending her a letter signed by the all community organizations who care about the trees in our neighborhoods and towns.

If you are committed to stronger urban forest policy and more funding for it, show that support today - sign on to the attached letters no later than March 7th, 2017.

All you have to do is reply to this e-mail indicating your support of both letters.

Please act now so we can continue building on the successes achieved in 2016 by all of us.

Thank you very much for your support!
