Sidewalk vs Trees who wins?

April 11, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Trees and sidewalks transform city streets into lush, comfortable and accessible places. However these two elements are often at odds with each other: tree roots can cause damage to sidewalks, and sidewalks and other pavement can inhibit tree health and longevity by limiting root development. When tree roots prevail sidewalk lift can cause safety and accessibility problems. The City of Eugene has been exploring material and design solutions to the ever-present sidewalk vs tree conundrum.

Please join us as we welcome Scott Altenhoff, City of Eugene Urban Forester and Master Arborist to discuss the City of Eugene’s path of exploring options to accommodate roots on existing large trees and infrastructure-based strategies. Scott will be discussing contributing factors to sidewalk repair and Solutions/Management Strategies including the City of Eugene use of the https://tripstop.us/.
